Climate

The Baltic Sea coastal climate enjoys maritime and continental influences and is one of the sunniest corners in all of Germany. Shining an average 1870 hours annually, the sun graces Rügen island longer than anywhere else in the country. The island climate is famous for its fresh and pure air, abundant sunshine and briskly invigorating breezes. Simply take a deep breath and feel yourself unwind. Weather forecasters call for ample measure of all the beneficial effects of R&R. And not just in the summertime either as the island records mild temperatures throughout the year. The average air temperature for the year is 8°C (46°F). March has been known to reach 20°C (68°F) and the mercury can start rising to 30°C (86°F) as early as May. Yet it’s never too hot at the beach thanks to the sea breeze which kicks up during the late mornings before tapering off during the clear, cool evenings. Rügen locals will attest: the sunniest month is June. Holidaymakers on Rügen can look forward to 65 days of 10+ hours of sunshine throughout the year – in the sunniest of years, that figure can even climb to 100 days.
